Your camera's dynamic range.

Exercise: your camera's dynamic range.

The following picture is of my front door.  The walls of the house are white and gave me the necessary highlight.  I placed a black umbrella in the darkened hallway to give the lowlight.
I used my Canon G1X set at ISO 100 and, after some test checks, the aperture at f6.3.
The black registered R2 B2 G3.  The white registered R255 B252 G243.  There was a very small amount of shadow clipping.
The whitest part of the door from gave a shutter speed of 1/1250 and the darkest part of the umbrella 1 sec.
This would seem to give my Canon a dynamic range of 10 stops which is two greater than dp review give it.  Nine stops is good but I feel that ten stops on such a camera is not credible.

I reproduce the results below.

Readings for black.

Readings for white.
